Community: The Structure of Belonging

By Peter Block

(BEAVER COUNTY, Pa.) – The annual shared book reading of Bridges and Pathways College Alliance in 2019 will be Community: The Structure of Belonging by Peter Block. Along with the Bridges and Pathways member partners (CCBC, Geneva College, and Penn State Beaver.), PA Cyber Charter School will also join this year’s Common Read sharing the book with its teachers and students across the state and sponsoring a communitywide live stream event with the author.

In addition to reading this book and series of yearlong events hosted at each institution, Bridges and Pathways hosted a joint presentation via internet with Peter Block on October 21, 2019, at 3 p.m. The video recording is available below.

Peter Block, author of several best-selling books, is a highly acclaimed and recognized expert in existing community building. His work exhibits a significant focus on empowering, enhancing, reconciling, and promoting accountability in community. The 2019 Bridges and Pathways annual reading selection, Community: The Structure of Belonging, is focused not on the mere criteria needed in order to produce a thriving community. Instead, Peter Block’s approach in this book is to encourage the development of a new way of processing and understanding the idea of community.
